Ahh Rogue, the grand-daddy of most all video games. Before Rogue... I'm not sure if there ever was a Before-Rogue era! Later known as NetHack, Rogue was developed as a way to test the connectivity of UNIX machines. The first version I played was in the mid-1980's on a Tandy. Those were the days; I payed big bucks for a 16 color display! Coincidentally, the following DOS version of Rogue could quite possibly be the same version I had. Long story short, Rogue is the most basic of crawler. You walk around in randomly generated levels finding the goods to survive and possibly beat the game by finding the Amulet Yendor. Download the "Normal Version" below to get started.

Normal Version (EXE) ZIP - 45 KB
Complex-Damage Only Version (EXE) ZIP - 45 KB
Level 22 Without Amulet (SAV) ZIP - 11 KB
Level 1 With Amulet (SAV) ZIP - 11 KB

For those that have already given the "Normal Version" a try, and for those that have been the victim of strange probably, there is a hex-hacked version that increases your chances greatly, a save-file that can save you some time, and another save-file for those interested in what happens when you actually win (or if you want to start at level 1 with a ton of HP and play from there). Be warned, this game is addicting to those with attention spans; and the greatest part of it is that it's nerdy old-school game, but you don't have to memorize tons of spells and stuff to play it; I suppose that makes it stupid-fun. And stupid-fun at that! You will find yourself slamming the arrow keys and the space bar while telling a bat to stop moving. There's nothing else you need to know. Enjoy!
