My Soon-to-be Main Computer is:
A 2.1GHz (T6500) Sony Vaio NW150J/S (Granite Silver) with 4GB RAM, a 320GB (5400 RPM) hard drive, amd a 15.5-inch LCD widescreen with at 1366x768. It has a Blu-ray/CD-RW/DVD-RW drive, 802.11a/b/g/n ready, built-in web cam and mic and a lot of other features that made it the best choice.
I am still breaking this laptop in at this point but my plan is for this laptop to replace all my previous desktops and laptops, which means it will used to do web-work, the adobe suite, and video games as much as possible.
I am also looking into buying a nice sized monitor for dual-monitor support. I never hooked my loaner computer up to a monitor until I was getting ready to buy a new laptop, and this is a feature I can now not live without. I can't say which monitor I will be buying.
My Loaner
Computer is [on it's way out]:
A 1.66 GHz Centrino Duo Dell Inspiron E1405
(Laptop) with 1 GB of RAM, a 51.2 GB hard drive and a world of problems. The E1405 is a model plagued with issues. It is a model that has a unique battery which has battery life issues right out of the box. Replacement batteries don't help either because after 6-12 months the E1405 will start to fail. The E1405 also comes with a defective power cable which goes really well with a battery that can only hold a charge for a minute. There is also an issue with USB power failing at times. It sounds like all of the E1405's problems revolve around power.
I was able to use this laptop as my main computer for the first half of 2009, but then had to find another option.
My "Web Work" Computer is:
A 500 MHz Hewlett Packard Pavilion 6535 with 192+ SRAM, 11MB dynamic video memory, an Intel Celeron Processor 466MHz, a 8.4 GB Ultra DMA Hard Drive (7.85 GB), a 80.0 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive (74.5 GB), a Conexant V.90 SoftK56 PCI Modem (currently not being used), Linksys Eitherfast PCI Adapter, running Windows98 with a 40X CD-ROM and a single
4.5" disk drive.
Externals include a Broadmax HSA300A DSL Modem, an Iomega Zip 100 (currently not being used), an HP LaserJet 5L, a web cam, and a Creative Infra Remote/Receiver. I use Creative Inspire 4.1 surround sound (Horizontal) speakers, two Polk Audio satellites (High support) and two Polk Audio towers (Low support) speakers. And yes, that makes my setup 8.1. With sound sensitive LED sticks (1 large, 2 small), I also use a One-Touch HP Keyboard, a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer optical mouse, a Dell Trinitron 18" CRT Monitor and a software controlled Belkin UPS. 5 USB slots (1 to 4 splitter) are all used.
Warranty? I don't need no stinkin' warranty!
I have no need for a DVD player or CD/DVD writer because I would not use them; I took this in consideration when I bought my computer. I play no games using the HP, so I have not needed an expensive video card; similarly, I don't need to upgrade my processor every time Intel releases a new chip. My 56K modem is no longer a bottleneck. Due to Earthlink's poor service, I upgraded to DSL Extreme service on June 14, 2004. I am currently using a 7100/768 DSL connection.

Currently one of two batteries is installed. I'm using a 2wire external wifi card (which I dislike) and a 24x CD-ROM. I have several other peripherals that I do not use on a day to day basis.
